Making Friends and Becoming Part of a Community

Since the 1960s, people who have made the New River Valley their home have found the transition made easier by joining the Blacksburg Newcomers' Club. We welcome residents of any age, gender, nationality, race, or religion and it does not matter if you've lived here 5 months or 5 years - everyone is welcome to join!
Club members meet monthly for a general meeting, which includes social time and a fun, informative program. Members participate in smaller interest group activities such as wine tasting, supper circles, book clubs and more. As a member, you will receive a weekly E-News Blast that includes general meetings, activities, and Interest Group information.

Activities and Interest Groups
Our Interest Groups offer opportunities to meet others and share hobbies and leisure activities. Interest Groups include: Book Clubs, Lunch Bunch, Ladies Dinner & Drinks, Monday Mah Jongg, Drafted, Circle Supper Club, Wine Group, Brunch Group, Papercrafting, Needleworks, Happy Hikers, Wednesday Walkers and Gadabouts. If you don't see a group with your interests, we'll help you get one started!

Community Service
Each monthly meeting features a speaker from a local Community Service Organization and members may bring needed items to donate and learn about ways to volunteer. We have participated in a "Reverse Advent" challenge to support the food pantry, our book clubs have collected books for the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP), Montgomery County Christmas Store (MCCS), and we have held a silent auction to benefit Micah's Closet and we make an annual year-end donation to a local charity.
Social events are also planned in the evenings for all members and their partners. Past events have included Chili Cook
Offs, Mix n' Mingles, Holiday Brunch, Kentucky Derby socials, and Year End May Socials.
General Meetings

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, September-May in the community room of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church at 600 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg. All general membership meetings are free and open to the public. We'd love for you to become a member!
